Single Review: Darius Rucker - "Wagon Wheel"

A cover of the Roots band Old Crow Medicine Show,"Wagon Wheel,"is a song Darius Rucker will soon have at Country Radio which is the most well-known song in the South that nobody has really heard played on most Country Radio stations. Read on to see what we have to say about this single!

Darius' distinctive velvety baritone is one of Country Music's best and on this traditional country-leaning up tempo (which loses none of the fiddle, mandolin or banjo licks from the original). In fact, Darius really just sings the pleasant and fun melody as it should be sang and the feel-good nature of the song is accentuated by Lady Antebellum's harmonies which keeps the OCMS classic string band feel of the song. The radio version does cut a minute of awesome instrumentals off but that's OK as there's still a brilliant fiddle solo in the middle of the song and there's no way most radio stations want to play the five minute version that the album version is.

Darius has managed to record a song that suits him while also being able to simultaneously have a single that is the most country song he's ever released to radio and one of the most Traditionally minded songs he's recorded in his career.
