With that in mind, that's exactly what Scotty McCreery and 19/Interscope/Mercury Nashville have done with Christmas With Scotty McCreery. Featuring eleven mostly traditional yuletide favorites, the album is an easy to listen record and it suits his voice better than nearly anything on Clear As Day. "Let It Snow," "The First Noel," "Jingle Bells" "Winter Wonderland" and "Holly Jolly Christmas" all rival any of the traditional versions while his take on the 2009- "Christmas In Heaven" (written by Jeremy Johnson and Paul Marino) is the kind of performance that makes for a yearly Christmas staple and I suspect that it'll be the 'single' from Christmas With Scotty McCreery. Scotty also does a fine job taking on Mark Lowry's "Mary Did You Know?" and "O Holy Night," a song which requires some semblance of vocal range and allows Scotty to showcase his. The record closes out with a nod to Elvis on "Santa Claus Is Back In Town," a return to his youthful roots of sorts.
Christmas With Scotty is largely as warm and familiar as a cup of Hot Cocoa. That is, it's not the kind of groundbreaking all-new Christmas recording but it is well-made and should be an easy addition to any Christmas music fan's collection of yuletide music.
