Country Album Chart News For November 28 2012: Taylor Swift "Red" Double Platinum; Black Friday Sales Strong

With two albums inside this week's Top 10 Country Albums, Blake Shelton certainly leads the way with this week's Black Friday Shopping-influenced chart rundown. Taylor and Jason still have #1 and #2 albums but the real story is the success of albums after them. Read all about it here!

Black Friday Sales Impact Whole Chart, Nearly All Country Stars Benefit With Massive Sales Gains, including Blake Shelton, with two albums in The Top 10.

Taylor Swift and Jason Aldean both land #1 and #2 on the SoundScan Top 10 Country Albums chart rundown this week but are joined in the Top 10 by three Christmas albums, the 2012 yuletide releases from Blake Shelton, Scotty McCreery and Lady Antebellum. Carrie Underwood rode the highest sales wave this week to score a remarkable bump back into the Top 10 with “Blown Away.” Shelton’s “Cheers It’s Christmas.” is #4 and is joined inside the Top 20 by Lady Antebellum’s “On This Winter’s Night” and “Scotty McCreery’s “Chrsitmas With Scotty McCreery,” giving country music artists 30% of the Top 20 albums.

Blake Shelton “Red River Blue,” Kenny Chesney’s “Fishbowl” Jump Into Top 10.

Luke Bryan has the #7 album this week with the 1.6 million seller “Tailgates & Tanlines” while Blake Shelton jumps 91 slots on the SoundScan Top 200 chart to #34 (#8 Country) with “Red River Blue,” benefitting from 2012 Black Friday sales in both digital and traditional retail marketplaces. Kenny Chesney’s Gold-selling “Welcome To The Fishbowl” has the second biggest sales jump this week climbing from #80 to #37 overall while Little Big Town’s “Tornado” rounds out the Top 10 rundown this week.

Hunter Hayes, Lionel Richie, Kip Moore lead Notable Recordings

Hunter Hayes slid down the charts this week but like most everyone on this chart, he scored a strong sales increase with his self-titled debut for Atlantic Records moving 121,000 copies away from Gold and with physical product in stores, look for an announcement of Gold for Hunter Hayes very shortly, helping to round out his 2012 as a remarkable breakthrough year. The 25th Very Special Christmas album has moved 33,000 copies while Lionel Richies Platinum-selling “Tuskegee” (for much of 2012 it was the best-selling country-related album) gaining sales as a gift item while George Strait and Alan Jackson’s ‘hits’ collections did the trick as well with fans picking up $1.99-$3.99 copies at Best Buy, Walmart and Target. Kip Moore’s “Up All Night” has now moved 241,000 copies. Rascal Flatts “Changed” has moved 410,000 copies, giving the modern legends 90,000 copies shy of yet another RIAA certification but like Hunter’s album, they’re likely to get certified Gold very shortly, something which has already happend for Scotty McCreery’s Christmas Recording.

Last week's only new release was Uncle Kracker's "Midnight Special" which rounds out the charts below with 4,000 sold. No real large releases will pepper the charts next week but in two weeks we’ll have Florida Georgia Line’s “Here’s To The Good Times” leading the newbies away and we strongly think there’s a chance at 100-200,000 copies sold in the opening week, which would be the biggest debut opening for a country duo ever and perhaps ever for a new artist. “Cruise” is that powerful of a single and is liked by nearly everyone.
