Country Chart News - The Top 30 Digital Singles: The Week of October 24, 2012: Jason Aldean Scores Big; Taylor Swift Still #1

Jason Aldean scores big as 12 of 16 tracks from Night Train debut on the Digital Singles chart from SoundScan (four of them in the top 30). Read on to find out more about these songs, Florida Georgia Line's #2 digital seller AND the lack of a Taylor's latest digital song on the chart, again.

Jason Aldean Rolls into Top 30 with tracks from Night Train; Taylor Swift Still well-represented, despite new single being deemed a pop song by SoundScan.

Once again, Taylor Swift’s denied a new Digital Country Single #1 slot with a track from Red as “State Of Grace” sold 209,000 copies but wasn’t allowed to hit #1 due to SoundScan chart rules for where songs are charted (after much discussion over her “pop” song “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” sitting at #1 despite moderate success on country airplay charts and “Red” charting without any radio airplay). “We Are” still is #1 and has now sold 2.44 million singles. #2 this week is Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise,” a song which moved 6,000 more tracks than last week to bring sales to just under 750,000 strong.  Swift’s Red sits at 59,000 sold with sales just under Gold status for the title tune to her just-released fifth album. Carrie Underwood’s Airplay #1 hit “Blown Away” is at #4 this week with sales now nearly 1.12 million strong while tourmate Hunter Hayes’ “Wanted” has now moved 1.6 million copies and rounds out the Top 5.

Aldean’s “Night Train” single Leads #6-10 section of the chart.

Of the 16 tracks from Night Train, 12 of them are on the chart this week, including the title track which was his best-selling track this week (and seems to point to it being a radio smash in the near future). It was Jason’s only top 10 track this week but two more (“The Only Way I Know” with Luke Bryan and Eric Church and “Take A Little Ride” are just outside of it. The big hit from the TV show “Nashville” so far seems to be Sam Palladio and Clare Bowen’s startling duet of “If I Ddin’t Know Better.” the single has sold 70,000 copies in two weeks, including 39,000 this week. Taylor Swift’s Radio single “Begin Again” is a week away from going Gold while Lee Brice’s “Hard To Love” looks ready to hit #1 on the Airplay chart this week while sitting at #8 and #9, respectively. Luke Bryan rounds out the Top 10 this week with “Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye.” It likely will hit gold but as the fifth single from Tailgates & Tanlines, it’s not likely to join the others as a platinum hit (because most of the country audience that wants the tune already has it on his CD or bought it digitally).

Jason Aldean Leads New Singles On Chart With 11 New Tracks

As mentioned above, 12 of Night Train’s songs hit the chart this week, with “The Only Way I Know” the #11 single after the previously mentioned title track. 31,000 fans took home the track, with 23,000 fans buying “When She Says Baby”; “This Nothin’ Town” moved over 9,500; Feel That Again” over 8,200; “I Don’t Do Lonely Well” moved over 7,800; “Walking Away” over 6,700; “Staring At The Sun” 6,300; “1994” moved 5,700 plus; “Black Tears” moved nearly 4,600 while “Wheels Rollin” moved 4,100 copies this week.
