Lyric Of The Week: Jerrod Niemann - "Shinin' On Me"

He's about to Free The Music in early October when the Sea Gayle/Arista Nashville album gets released. This week, we debut our Lyric Of The Week series with a feature on the lead single from Jerrod Niemann's "Shinin' On Me." The feature talks about the song and other hits from the artist as well.

This week's lyric of the week is our most-searched lyric from the past two months so it made sense to start with Jerrod Niemann's "Shinin' On Me," a song that's breaking inside the Top 20 radio this week.

After years of trying to be in the spotlight as an artist, Jerrod Niemann finally broke through in 2010/2011 with "Lover, Lover," a risky single choice at the time because it was originally an obscure small indie rock hit in the 1990s called "You Don't Treat Me No Good." But because of his instincts, Jerrod Niemann not only turned the song into a country hit but he also scored his first #1 and Platinum certifications.

Now set to follow-up that hit and album, he released "Shinin' On Me" in early 2012 and has seen the song slowly climb the charts with a sound (audible horns) that is also unique to modern country music and when announcing Free The Music, which features "Shinin' On Me," Jerrod Niemann explained his use of horns on the October 2012 Release:

“The pedal steel guitar has come to define country music, but there were years and years of country being made before that instrument was even invented. Horns have been in country going back to the 1920s, and fiddles and other string instruments date back even further. I took all those things and put them on Free The Music," he says.

Other hits from Jerrod include "What Do You Want" and "One More Drinkin' Song."

Jerrod also co-wrote the Garth Brooks chart-topping hit "Good Ride Cowboy."
