Keith Urban Accepts Offer To Join Judge Panel of American Idol

With a turn as one of The Voice Australia's debut coaches last spring, Keith Urban was selected by American Idol to take one of their two open judges seats for this season (for three people were needed to replace Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler). Read on to learn more about this news!

It's official, Australian Country Music superstar Keith Urban has accepted the offer from American Idol's producers to be one of the panel's judges, as reported first by The Country Vibe and confirmed Thursday by Katie Couric

Keith added; "It's really an honor to have been invited to be a part of the American Idol family.  I'm looking forward to working with everyone and to seeing the same passion that I have for music in all of the participants."

Keith Urban joins Blake Shelton as major country stars on panels of popular Television competition shows. He will reportedly earn $3m to $4m to be a judge, roughly half of what Brad Paisley was supposedly seeking for the gig (to replace some lost tour monies), according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The panel will expand back to four judges with Urban joining Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj.

The "You Gonna Fly" and "For You" singer recently was one of the mentor coaches on The Voice Australia's first season this past spring. It was reportedly one of the reasons why Idol's producers were wanting to add Urban to the mix.
