Chart News For September 19 2012: A "Tornado" of Success For Little Big Town

With Tornado, Little Big Town has managed to score their highest placement ever on SoundScan's Top 200 Current Albums Chart. Read on to find out more about their success along with how the rest of the Top 10 and some other notable artists fared!

Projected to sell 90-100,000 copies of Tornado, Little Big Town instead sells 113,000, beating all projections and scoring the biggest sales week of their career!

“Pontoon” has been the hit of the summer for 2012 and because of its everywhereness, the song now has helped Little Big Town not only score their first #1 single but it also helped the band nearly triple their best sales week ever (for 2010’s The Reason Why) with sales of 113,000 strong for Tornado. The album is well on its way to at least becoming a Gold-selling record, particularly given how strong the rest of the album’s tracks are. “Tornado” is the bands next single as well. Their debut at #2 on the Top 200 SoundScan chart is also a high spot for the quartet. Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away” lost 10,000 in sales (the iTunes sale disappeared) but sitll was the #2 selling country record this week. Following her, in order are Luke Bryan, Zac Brown Band, and Eric Church with Tailgates & Tanlines, Uncaged, and Chief, repsectively.

Hunter Hayes continues to sell well while “Wanted” hits #1 on Airplay chart. The album gives Hunter Hayes #6 Country Slot.

Hunter Hayes, the debut from Hunter Hayes (no surprise there), is continuing to sell well as the artist moves another 8,000 copies of his nearly year old record. The album’s sophomore single, “Wanted,” hit #1 this week to give the singer/songwriter his first ever chart-topper, only a few weeks after his 21st birthday. Jason Aldean continues to prepare his next release Night Train but in the meantime he still is selling well with My Kinda Party. Colt Ford, who wrote a track on the My Kinda Party album (“Dirt Road Anthem”), has the #8 country album in the USA with Declaration of Independence while Kenny Chesney’s Welcome To The Fishbowl sits at #9. Rounding out this Top 10 from SoundScan this week is Kix Brooks’ New To This Town. The solo Arista Nashville debut, is Brooks’ highest solo-charting album and it sold 7,000 copies in its first week of release.

Notable CDs this week include Dustin Lynch, Chris Knight, Bucky Covington.

This week’s notable section finds Jason Aldean’s label mate Dustin Lynch leading a list which is followed by four newcomer albums, all released last week. Chris Knight’s Little Victories leads the new releases with 3,000 sold while Bucky Covington’ moved over 2,000 copies of his Good Guys release. Justin Moore’s nearing a Gold record for sophomore album Outlaws Like Me while Republic Nashville newcomers Florida Georgia Line continue to slide up the Album Sales charts with their digital EP It’z Just What We Do.

Note: The Time Jumpers’ self-titled Rounder debut and Kathy Mattea’s Sugar Hill Records debut also moved over 1,000 pieces its first week of release.
