Chart News For August 15, 2012: Colt Ford's 'Declaration of Independence' Lands at #1

For the first time since he started hitting the charts four years ago, Colt Ford has himself a #1 album on the Country Music charts as Declaration of Independence hits #1 on the Top Current Country Albums chart as compiled by SoundScan. Read on to see how well he did and how the chart shapes up.

Country Music is being turned upside down today as Colt Ford Debuts in the Top 5 of the SoundScan Top 200 Albums with Declaration of Independence, giving him the #1 album in country music.

Zac Brown Band has held #1 on the Country Chart (and either #1 or #2 on the Top 200 Albums) the past four weeks but they find themselves Uncaged from the slot this week by Colt Ford’s Declaration of Independence, the first time an independent record label has landed the #1 slot since Aaron Lewis hit #1 in March of 2011 with Town Line. Luke Bryan remains #14 on the charts with Tailgates & Tanlines now having sold 1.349 million. Carrie Underwood’s Blown Away is up to #15 (giving country music for of the Top 15 albums) and she’s now sold 689,000 while Kenny Chesney rounds out the Top 5 with the all-genre #17 Welcome To The Fishbowl. The album has sold 404,000 copies to date.

The Chief, Eric Church Remains a Best-seller and at #6

Eric Church’s Chief remains the #6 best-selling country music album with another 12,000 fans picking up his record, leaving him just about 11,000 away from scanning Platinum. Gloriana’s sophomore album A Thousand Miles Left Behind has moved 33,000 in two weeks while Hunter Hayes self-titled album has now crossed the 200,000 sales mark with a sales increase of 29% to the Top 30. Jason Aldean has the #9 album of the week with My Kinda Party while #41 album Now That’s What I Call Country Music 5 has moved to 105,000 copies sold.

Notable CDs this week include Lee Brice, Josh Turner, Kip Moore.

The Notable albums this week start off with Lee Brice’s Hard 2 Love now at 190,000 copies while Josh Turner sits at 115,000 sold. Kip Moore’s Up All Night has now sold 174,000 copies while Love and Theft’s self-titled album hits the 25,000 mark in three weeks on the charts while their Gold-selling single “Angel Eyes” hits #1 this week. Rounding out the rundown is The Greatest: Number One Hits, the latest collection released in 2012 that celebrates Johnny Cash’s anniversary of life (he would’ve been 80 this year).
