The Weekly Single Recap: July 4, 2012

This week's weekly single recap takes a different approach as we take a look at a few choice album cuts and singles that work well when mixed into a party playlist for Fourth of July and other related parties this summer. Read on to see what we say at these ten songs!

"Dixie Highway" - Alan Jackson featuring Zac Brown

Alan Jackson has a history of making great party toons (see "Chattahoochee") and he's back with an ode to his home state of Georgia, a song sung with fellow Georgia boy Zac Brown. It's longish and a bit 'jammy' in spots but it still manages to work and fits the mood of this list quite well.

Craig Morrison - "Doin' Country"

This song is all about enjoying life and time off with those you love the most. It's about feeling, it's about freedom. In other words, a great 'patriotic' song that needn't be overtly patriotic to get a feeling of pride and freedom out of its message.

Dierks Bentley - "Home"

How could we do a 4th of July type of playlist without 2012's newest addition to the pantheon of strong songs about America. What makes this one particularly strong is that it's devoid of usual stock patriotic country cliches and instead paints a wonderful picture of all of america.

Kip Moore - "Up All Night"

The title track to his strong-selling album (which features Platinum #1 "Somethin' 'Bout A Truck," and new single "Beer Money") sets a mood about having a good time with the ones you love to be with, in other words, a perfect song for a playlist like this, and its another song that explores freedom and discusses living life to its fullest, even if for one day.

Florida/Georgia Line - "Tip It Back"

This song (which is not yet a single) may 'just' be a fun, feel-good party song but it's a dang good one. It's twangy without feeling too 'rock n roll' (check out the guitar solo), the vocals from Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley are strong and the band sets a good mood about having a good time and say 'don't worry about about anything except what's in your glass….all you need to do tonight is tip it back.' Message received, guys.

Luke Bryan - "I Don't Want This Night To End"

A massively successful hit for Luke, "I Don't Want This Night To End" is another strong party ready song that helps keep the mood light and fun, exactly what we should want out of a good-time party playlist.  It also adds a bit of familiarity to this list (which seems to be heavy on good album cuts so far).

Keith Urban - "For You"

This song is written for and about the recent hit film Act of Valor and while the topic is a bit heavy in places, the ultimate uptempo nature to the song makes it a right choice for this playlist and when you add in the patriotic overtones of laying your life for the right to celebrate the USA's independence and freedom, what a better way than to include this gem of a patriotic song? Exactly.

Benton Blount - "Guilty As Charged"

Benton Blount is a song about being proud of where you're from, who you are and well, that's a exactly what this track from Benton's strong self-titled self-released album is. Written by Blair Daly, Brett James and Troy Verges, the song is loud and proud, just like a lot of Americans are every day. In other words, it's perfect for a weekend and Independence Day party mix.

Little Big Town - "Pontoon"

How could we have an independence day 2012 playlist without mentioning THE song of the summer 2012 (#1 on iTunes Country Chart). This song is all about having a good, relaxing time out on the lake. What more could you want in a party mix? It's fun, it's a party song and did we mention it's fun?

The Farm - "Home Sweet Home"

The debut single from The Farm has hit the Top 20 at country radio and it's a fiddle and rockin' guitar -driven song with three-part vocal harmonies. A song about taking time, a little space and freedom to move, "Home Sweet Home" is a perfect inclusion on this list for this week!
