Chart News For July 18, 2012: Zac Brown Band, Skylar Laine and Country Stars Dominate Chart

Zac Brown Band debuts with the biggest sales week of her career while Hank Williams, Jr. has a big week himself with his brand new album. Skylar Laine also sees her album find an audience along with Hunter Hayes and Thompson Square scorin

With the best weekly sales of their career, Zac Brown Band scores the #1 album in all of the USA with Uncaged. Seven of the Top 20 SoundScan Albums are country releases, proving the sales power of an Amazon sale and country music in general

234,000 copies flew off store shelves (and digital lockers) to give Zac Brown Band the best-selling album in all of the land this week with Uncaged. The highly-praised album (Read our Review here) scored quite a few top-selling singles digitally in addition to the 234,000 sold, the best week of their career. You Get What You Give opened in September of 2010 with sales of 153,000. Kenny Chesney remained in the SoundScan Top Current Albums Chart Top 10 for another week with 32,000 fans purchasing the album.

Hank Williams, Jr. Has Best Sales Week In Years

Luke Bryan’s winning third release Tailgates & Tanlines sits as the #3 selling album this week with the album now nearing the 1.3 million sold mark in one year on the charts. It was also the #11 best-seller on the SoundScan Top 200, followed by Hank Jr. at #12. With Old School, New Rules debuting on his own Bocephus imprint (released through Blaster Records and Warner Music Nashville), Hank Williams, Jr. not only sounded vibrant and engaged musically after 30 years with Curb Records but he also scored the best sales week in a long time with 25,000 fans taking a copy of the album home. Creepin’ in at #5 on the Top 10 Current Country Albums chart this week is Eric Church. The Chief moved 19,000 copies of his nearly Platinum album this week.

Zac Brown Band Gets Second Album In Top 10!

Thanks to the Amazon Country Week sale, Four of the #6-10 albums scored sales increases this week with only Carrie Underwood’s #7 album Blown Away showing a sales decrease this week (it was only minus one percent). Leading the way at #6 is Zac Brown Band’s You Get What You Give, a record which scored a healthy 34 slot jump on the All-genre Top 200 Currnet Albums chart to land at #16.  Sales totals for the Zac Brown Band’s sophomore album now are at 1.555 million. Behind Carrie Underwood, on the Top 10 SoundScan Current Country Albums chart is Lee Brice with Hard 2 Love. with a 48 slot jump this week, “Wanted” singer/songwriter Hunter Hayes moves back inside the Top 10 with his self-titled debut. Rounding out the Top 10 is the  Punching Bag himself, Josh Turner. His sales have nearly hit 100,000 sold since releasing a few weeks ago.

Brantley Gilbert, Alan Jackson, Skylar Laine Lead Notable Albums

This is a week where the sales were so strong that we easily could’ve included another ten to fifteen albums in the rundown but that’s not how we roll anymore. We can say with certainty that country music owned more than 20% of the Top 80 albums with 23 of the albums on the chart belonging to country music’s superstars, up and comers and veteran acts.

Alan Jackson’s multi-week Top 10 album falls out (to #11 on the Country Chart, 35 overall) tihs week with Thirty Miles West. He’s joined in our rundown by Brantley Gilbert’s Halfway To Heaven and Up All Night from Kip Moore. Both albums sold between 8-9k albums this week. Thompson Square’s self-titled Stoney Creek Records debut scored 83 spot jump on the chart this week thanks to the sales from the Amazon Country Week sales. The Husband/Wife duo with the current hit “Glass” are also working on the follow-up to the record. Rounding out our rundown is American Idol finalist Skylar Laine with her 5 song EP now having sold 14,000 CDs. The CD is only available at Walmart.
