Single Review: Toby Keith - "I Like Girls Who Drink Beer"

Toby Keith's never been an artist that's wanting to rest on his laurels for long and because of this he's already ready to move on from Clancy's Tavern, his most successful album in five years, to release this single, the lead tune from his upcoming 2012 release. Read on to see what we think of it.

That's the chorus of this uptempo break-up song a song that feels distinctly country and what's good about it is that it's a song that's not really about beer. The hook "I like girls that drink beer" is more about finding a down to earth, regular woman instead of a high society, high-maitenance woman (ironically a song title which Toby's already had a hit with years ago).

Clearly contemporary, the song still has loads of fiddle, audible steel guitars and a downright country melody that makes it one of the most 'traditional' sounding songs to hit country radio and it also continues Toby Keith's trend to deliver strong songs that really build out his live show so it's not too same-song-y, joining "Red Solo Cup" and "Beers Ago."

Yeah, I admit I'd have loved to hear the title track from Clancy's Tavern get released to radio before this song but given Toby is the only country artist still releasing one album a year, I don't mind having a new single from a 2012 album release. "I Like Girls Who Drink Beer" will become another hit for the star, and likely follow "Cup" and "Beers Ago" into the Top 10, particularly since there are MANY women who will see this song as their anthem and most guys like girls who drink beer. It's a win-win.
