Chart News For June 27, 2012: "Welcome to The Fishbowl" #1 For Kenny Chesney

For the 11th consecutive time, Kenny Chesney debuts at #1 on the country music charts with Welcome To The Fishbowl, the first album for his new Blue Chair/Columbia Records team (but still with Sony Nashville since 1994). Take a look at this week's chart to see how the rest of the Top 10 filled out!

With 194,000 sold, Welcome To The Fishbowl has a commanding lead on the Top Country Albums chart with the nearest competitor of the chart, Luke Bryan’s year-old Tailgates & Tanlines over 160,000 copies behind. Luke, who hit #1 this week with “Drunk On You,” has now sold 1.2 million copies of his superstar-making album and now is planning on headlining his own arena tour in 2013. Last week’s second-best-selling country album, Alan Jackson’s “Thirty Miles West” slides down to #3 this week with sales now hitting 134,000 sold in just three weeks giving the veteran star an outside shot at another Gold record.

Now Country 5, Carrie’s Blown Away Remain in the Top 5

The rest of the music world may have more or less moved on from these sorts of compilations but country music fans still love their CDs so it’s not surprising to see the fifth installment of the Now That’s What I Call Country Music remaining in the Top 5 this week. The record features eighteen favorites and is joined by Carrie Underwood in rounding out the Top 5 with her Gold-selling and sure to be platinum Blown Away. The top five albums are all in the SoundScan Top 200 Current Albums’ top 15, giving country music one-third of the nation’s best-selling albums.

Josh Turner Punching Bag sits at #6 this week.

Last week’s top-selling country album, Josh Turner’s Punching Bag slides down five notches to #6 with another 18,000 copies sold bringing his two week tally to 63,000 albums sold. Eric Church’s soon-to-be Platinum album Chief is next and is only 108,000 scanned copies away from bringing the star his first Platinum album (all three of his albums are Gold at the moment)! Lionel Richie’s Platinum-certified Tuskegee is about six or seven weeks away from scanning Platinum and it remains 2012’s best-selling country music release (thanks to the duets with country stars). Last year’s #1 selling album, My Kinda Party from Jason Aldean, sits at #9 this week with 2.65 million copies now in the hands of music fans. Kip Moore’s Up All Night returns to the Top 10 with a 10% sales increase and has now sold 133k albums since being released a couple months ago.

Brantley Gilbert, Hunter Hayes Lead Notable Albums

With sales now over 609,000 sold, Brantley Gilbert’s Halfway To Heaven keeps on selling giving the up and coming singer/songwriter our lead spot this week in the notable albums tally. Eden’s Edge’s self-titled album (which features “Too Good To Be True” and “Amen”) doubled its sales this week to 18,000 sold in two weeks on the chart while Lee Brice’s Hard 2 Love has now sold 142,000 while Hunter Hayes (who reached Gold for the first time with Top 20 single “Wanted” this week) has rebounded up the charts with a 54% sales increase with his self-titled Atlantic Records debut. Rounding out our rundown this week is Don Williams with his first album in eight years, And So It Goes which debuts at #87 on the SoundScan Top 200 Current Albums chart with sales of 5,000 albums (pretty strong without any radio support).

Other notable albums this week include Rascal Flatts’ Changed (8,000 copies sold this week), Miranda Lambert’s Four The Record (5,000), Tim McGraw’s Emotional Traffic (4,000), Scotty McCreery’s Clear As Day (3,000), Chris Young’s Neon (3,000), and Jake Owen’s Barefoot Blue Jean Night (3,000).
