Chart News for May 2, 2012: Three Big Debuts

Lionel Richie's five week old Tuskegee remains at #1 this week while we see the debuts of Kip Moore, Lee Brice and Josh Abbott Band on the charts. We also check in on country music's biggest hit albums from Aldean to Lady Antebellum. Read on to find out where the Top 10 lands!

Lionel Richie drops from #1 to #3 on the SoundScan Top 200 Charts this week while retaining the #1 slot on the Top Current Country Albums chart. Richie’s album has now sold 615,000 copies in just five weeks on the charts. at #2 on the country album chart is Lee Brice with his sophomore album Hard 2 Love while Kip Moore’s Up All Night debuts at #3.

Luke Bryan’s tailgates & tanlines Platinum

Luke’s third album continues to sell well with it officially scanning Platinum. Burgeoning Texas Music act Josh Abbott Band debuts with their latest album Small Town Family Dream. The indie artists sold 21,000 copies of the record, their best week ever on the charts and the highest debut for a Texas Music artist since Casey Donahew Band’s Double Wide Dreams last fall.

Blake Shelton Leaps Up Chart with Red River Blue

Rascal Flatts leads off the second half of the Top 10 with Changed. The lead single from the album, “Banjo,” hit #1 this week on the radio charts. Eric Church’s Chief has now scanned ¾ of a million copies as “Springsteen” continues to move up the single chart. Meanwhile, Blake Shelton’s Red River Blue jumps the charts this week with a jump of sales cause of The Voice.  My Kinda Party continues to sell thousands of albums every week while Lady Antebellum closes out the Top 10 with Own The Night, now nearly a 1.6 million seller.

Brantley Gilbert and Zac Brown Band lead notables

The Gold-selling Halfway To Heaven continues to sell while Miranda Lambert’s Four The Record continues to move the needle as well. Zac Brown Band’s You Get What You Give is still selling even though they’re getting ready to move onto their next single and album. Scotty McCreery’s Clear As Day has now sold 1,035,000 while Hunter Hayes continues to move units of his self-titled album as “Wanted” jumps up the charts and has sold 110,000.

Other notable albums this week include Toby Keith’s Clancy’s Tavern (5,000 sold this week), Eli Young Band’s Life At Best (4,000), Jake Owen’s Barefoot Blue Jean Night (3,000), and Dierks Bentley’s Home (3,000)..
