Country Chart News: Top 30 Digital Singles: The Week of May 30, 2012

This week we see a few singles break remarkable barriers like Gold and Platinum with some other songs experiencing strong TV tie-ins to lead them up on the charts and on the charts. Also, we get some notable debuts from Little Big Town, Jana Kramer and Big & Rich.

Gloriana Scores Top 5 placement thanks to Performance on “The Bachelor;” Many other country singles pass Gold/Platinum marks

Thanks to sales of 81,000 this week, Luke Bryan’s “Drunk On You” becomes the third straight Platinum single to come off of the tailgates & tanlines album. Eric Church’s “Springsteen” is about 27,000 copies away from becoming a Platinum single, which would be the first Platinum certification of Eric Church’s career. Gloriana’s single gains 39,000 thanks to both being a hit on radio AND getting a primetime performance on ABC TV’s The Bachelor program. The trio’s sophomore album will hit stores in July. Rounding out the Top 5 is Kip Moore’s two-week #1 radio hit, the 800,000 seller “Somethin’ ‘Bout A Truck” and Carrie Underwood’s nearly platinum Top 5 hit “Good Girl.”

Hunter Hayes “Wanted” #6 this week, leads 2nd half of Top 10.

Hunter’s “Wanted” continues to sell strongly while the single slowly moves into the Top 30 of the Radio charts. “Wanted” has now sold 319,000 copies and will be Hunter’s first Gold single in about 4-5 weeks. Jason Aldean’s Gold “Fly Over States” (and a #1 hit) is slowly moving down the chart while Taylor Swift’s “Eyes Open” is about a month away from Platinum sales itself. Kenny Chesney’s current hit “Come Over has sold nearly 100,000 copies while Eli Young Band’s “Even If It Breaks Your Heart” is 56,000 copies away from becoming gold which should be about two weeks at current sales paces, a strong number for a single that has the looks of a #1 hit.

Little Big Town “Pontoon,” lead Notables

Little Big Town’s “Pontoon” has a strong #11 debut this week with 32,000 fans getting a copy of the song in the first week it’s available to buy. Dierks Bentley’s fast-rising single on the radio charts (“5-1-5-0”) continues to find fans and has now moved 123,000 copies while Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away” jumps back up the charts. Jana Kramer’s self-titled debut album comes out next week and the singer’s debut single “Why Ya Wanna” continues to move up the radio charts while also having now sold over 215,000 copies. Dustin Lynch has broken into the Top 20 digitally with “Cowboys and Angels” while the single has nearly done the same thing at radio. Zac Brown Band’s “No Hurry” has sold 200,000 singles while Josh Turner’s “Time Is Love” now has sold a quarter of a million copies in advance of Punching Bag’s June 19 release.

Riser of the Week: Scotty McCreery’s “Please Remember Me”

Scotty McCreery can thank his American Idol family for this song rising back up the charts. Whereas it sold 4,000 copies last week (to not even place on the top 100 country singles) to move 16,000 this week. Cowboy Troy’s “I Play Chicken With The Train” garnered a performance slot during Dancing With The Stars and appears on this chart for perhaps the first time as the 2006 single has sold 11,000 copies (it sold less than 200 the week before). Totals are now 190,000 for the lone big hit from Cowboy Troy’s catalog. Keith Urban’s “For You” rises up the charts to #45 from #54 with roughly to have a 31% sales increase this week with sales now over 106,000.

Little Big Town’s “Pontoon” moved 32,000 copies as we chronicled above and was clearly the best-selling new single of the week last week, Cowboy Troy’s song is the second highest “debut,” followed by Big & Rich’s “That’s Why I Pray” which moved 8,000 copies (it debuted at #33 on the singles chart this week); Jana Kramer’s “Good Time Comin’ On” with nearly 6,000 copies at #77 is the final new single this week.

Signles which are notable this week for their Gold/Platinum certifications include the Luke Bryan “Drunk On You” single becoming Platinum, Lee Brice’s “A Woman Like You” also became a Platinum single this week, his first ever Platinum single. Brantley Gilbert’s “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do” became his second consecutive Gold single while Tim McGraw’s “Better Than I Used To Be” became the latest Gold-selling in his career.

Notable singles selling for 69 cents on iTunes this week, “Home Sweet Home” from The Farm, “So You Don’t Have To Love Me Anymore” from Alan Jackson, Josh Thompson’s “Comin’ Around”, Kix Brooks’ “New To This Town” and Tyler Farr’s “Hot Mess.”
