Country Chart News: Top 30 Digital Singles: The Week of April 11, 2012

The ACM Awards provide this weeks' Country Digital Singles chart rundown with quite a bit of drama. Does Taylor hold on to #1? Did the superstar duet between Kenny and Tim hit #1 or did upstarts Luke Bryan or Eric Church manage to steal the superstars thunde

Eric Church hits #1 with “Springsteen,” thanks to a stand-out performance of the song on the 2012 ACM Awards last week. Many other artists hit sales highs this week as well.

After two weeks at #1 with “Eyes Open,” Taylor Swift slides down from #1 to #4 as three songs performed on the 2012 ACM Awards take their place. The first song to do so is this week’s #1 single, Eric Church’s fantastic “Springsteen.” The song, which finds Church reminiscing about the power a song has to return us to a specific memory, is now nearly Gold, a feat his prevous four singles have all attained.  Luke Bryan’s latest, “Drunk On You” looks to be heading in a similar direction as well with the single garnering ACM love. The third single to usurp Swift’s Hunger Games track this week is the debut of Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw’s “Feel Like A Rock Star.” The superstar duet single sold 93,000 singles this week to score the #3 debut. Swift’s tune lands at #4 and is close to being Gold itself with 380,000 copies now sold. Rounding out the Top 5 is last week’s #5 single, Carrie Underwood’s now Gold single “Good Girl.” The single gained 9,000 in sales over the previous week and surely benefited from the Opening slot of the ACM Awards.

Top 10 includes Miranda, Jason, Lee, and Kip!

Miranda Lambert’s “Over You,” was performed on the ACM Awards and scored a nice sales increase because of the performance, with 17,000 more fans downloading the track over the previous week. She’s now sold 529,000 copies, giving her yet another Gold single! Jason Aldean’s latest “Fly Over States” was performed on the ACM Awards and scored a 12,000 sales bump. Lee Brice’s single sits at #1 on both radio chart rundowns this week and the single has now sold nearly 750,000 singles and is likely on its way to Platinum while fellow young artist Kip Moore’s debut “Somethin’ ‘Bout A Truck” looks ready to hit Gold with next weeks’ numbers. The song rounds out the Top 10 this week (a tally which also includes the nearly Platinum “Safe & Sound” duet from Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars).

Red Solo Cup, Gunpowder & Lead, lead Notables

Thanks to a quirky performance of “Red Solo Cup” on the ACM Awards, Toby Keith continues to score a renaissance of sorts as the single continues its march towards Double Platinum downloads (2 million). arond it on the chart this week is Blake Shelton’s “Drink On It,” Rascal Flatts’ hit radio song (but not so hot digital download)”Banjo” and Jake Owen’s Gold “Alone With You.” Eli Young Band’s “Even If It Breaks Your Heart” is barely Top 20 yet it’s outsold the Top 5 Rascal Flatts song (it also looks likely that “Changed,” the title track from The Flatts’ new album, will be a strong digital seller with four week sales now at 100k).

The Top Riser of the Week goes to Rascal Flatts

“Changed” benefitted from the release of the full-length album this week but it still feels like it’s the kind of reactionary tune that drives sales for Rascal Flatts and looks ready to follow “Easy” and “I Won’t Let Go” into becoming a digital single sales success (“Banjo” doesn’t really feel this way). “Tattoos On This Town” from Jason Aldean flew up the charts as did Eli Young Band’s Award-winning “Crazy Girl.”

RaeLynn scores 2nd Highest Debut

Once again we see TV impactng sales chart numbers this week as The Voice’s RaeLynn (from Team Blake), scored a strong #36 debut with her take on Maroon 5’s pop hit “Wake Up Call.” It’s a strong indicator that the singer has a career waiting for her in country if she doesn’t win the show (and thus joining Idol artists). Her song scored the second-highest debut this week and was surrounded by Gloriana’s “(Kissed You) Good Night,” Hunter Hayes rising single “Wanted” (sales are out-pacing radio airplay so far) and Rascal Flatts’ debut of the album track “Let It Hurt.” Lee Brice’s “I Drove Your Truck” debuted at #51 while The Band Perry’s “Post Cards From Paris,” slinks up the charts. Toby Keith’s “Beers Ago,” his latest single” also made its way up the charts.

There aren’t many new and noteworthy singles to make high debuts this coming week but we’ll be sure to keep you covered with the Top 30 singles rundown. Have a great week!
