Chart News for April 25, 2012: Lionel Richie Stays at #1

With another 114,000 copies scanned at retail, Lionel Richie's comeback continues with the country duets project Tuskegee.  The album has now surpassed the 500,000 sales mark. Read on to find out where the rest of country's top 10 landed this week!

Depsite a strong challenge from Jason Mraz’ Love is a Four Letter Word, Lionel Richie was able to retain the #1 sales slot for the second week in a row.

Lionel Richie’s comeback continues this week as Tuskegee sold another 114k copies this week to bring sales past the 500,000 sales mark officially giving Richie his first Gold record in six years (2006’s Come Home). Luke Bryan’s tailgates & tanlines is officially certified Platinum by the RIAA and if sales hold, he’ll get his millionth album in fans hands in time for next week’s tally.

Rascal Flatts Changed approaching 200k sold

With “Banjo” approaching #1, superstar trio Rascal Flatts is approaching 200,000 sold for their second Big Machine Records release Changed, while Eric Church’s Chief has is the fourth best-seller this week while Jason Aldean’s 2.53 million seller My Kinda Party  continues to find fans 77 weeks into its chart run. That means that (15) of the Top 25 albums on SoundScan’s Top 200 Current Albums chart are country music recordings.

Brantley Gilbert's Halfway To Heaven Officially Gold!

The second half of the Top 10 of the SoundScan Top Current Country Albums chart kicks off with 1.5 million seller Own The Night from Lady Antebellum. Right behind the trio is The Valory Music Company’s Brantley Gilbert with his officially certified gold Halfway To Heaven album.  Blake Shleton’s Red River Blue is the #8 selling album this week while wife Miranda Lambert’s Four The Record is right behind at #9. The Band Perry’s self-titled album rounds out the Top 10 and has now sold 1.26 million copies.

Zac Brown Band, Scotty, Toby Lead Notable Albums

The Zac Brown Band, who just announced the date of their next major label album release for July 10, lead our notables this week with You Get What You Give having now sold 1.47 million albums. right behind the massively popular seven-piece band is Scotty McCreery with Clear As Day, which has now sold 1.03 million albums. Toby Keith’s Clancy’s Tavern has now hit Gold in scanned units, giving the star his first Gold reord since 2008’s That Don’t Make Me A Bad Guy. Eli Young Band has crossed the 200,000 sales mark with Life At Best while Hunter Hayes rounds out this week’s chart as Top 40 single “Wanted” drives his album sales past the 107k mark.

Other notable albums this week include Tim McGraw’s Emotional Traffic (5,000 sold this week), Hank Williams III’s Long Gone Daddy (5,000), Jake Owen’s Barefoot Blue Jean Night (3,000), The LACS 190 Proof (3,000), and Rodney Atkins’ Take A Back Road (3,000).
