Chart news for February 8, 2012: Tim McGraw's Emotional Traffic Stalled At #1

Tim McGraw's stay at the top of the SoundScan Top Country Albums chart continues this week with his final studio album with Curb Records Emotional Traffic. Read on to see how the Top 5 and some more notable albums fared this week!

Despite a 56% sales decrease from last week, Tim McGraw’s Emotional Traffic scores a second week in both the SoundScan Top 200 Albums Chart and at #1 on the SoundScan Top Country Albums chart. Luke Bryan’s Tailgates & Tanlines scored an 18 percent increase in sales to slide up to #2 on the Top Country Albums chart thanks to recent #1 hit and #1 digital single “I Don’t Want This Night To End” continue to lead fans to picking up the record which is on pace to become Luke’s first Platinum-selling album.

Lady Antebellum Rebounds with “Own The Night”

With a 13% sales increase over last week, Lady Antebellum’s Own The Night has risen back up the charts with new single “Dancing Away With My Heart” sounding like a perfect Valentine’s Day and 2012 wedding season song. Jason Aldean’s My Kinda Party scored a 25% sales increase over last week and that’s one of the reasons why “Fly Over States” was released as the fifth single from the album instead of moving onto a follow-up album, like he had for the previous three albums (no more than four singles were). Toby Keith’s Clancy’s Tavern lands back inside the Top five this week thanks to a slight sales increase, leaving him only 90,000 copies away from the hitting Gold, thanks to “Red Solo Cup.”

Scotty McCreery’s “Clear As Day” lead notable albums this week

Scotty McCreery may not be a world-wide pop idol but he’s doing just fine as a countr y artist, thank you. This is in spite of the fact that his singles “I Love You This Big” and “The Trouble With Girls” aren’t big charting hits (yet). The Band Perry’s The Band Perry features mega-hit “If I Die Young,” still one of country music’s best-selling digital singles, “You Lie” and the #1 hit of the week at Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, “All Your Life.”

Eric Church’s Chief continues to gain momentum

Eric Church’s “Drink In My Hand” became his first #1 radio single – in his 10th try – and it seems like it’s only the beginning of Church’s ascent on the charts as one of the A-list country artists. This helped his album Chief sell 10,000 more copies this week to bring sales totals to just short of 600,000 since being released. The next single, “Springsteen,” has just been released to radio and is already charting and it’s a song we expect to see hit at least the Top 5 but is most-likely destined for #1 on the charts. Taylor Swift’s Speak Now joins this week’s rundown as it returns to the Top 10 best-selling country albums (one of 12 country albums in the SoundScan Top 50 of the Top 200 Current Albums chart). IT’s now sold over 3.97 million copies and is about three-four weeks away from scanning the 4x platinum mark. Taylor’s last single from the album is “Ours.”

Miranda Lambert and Pistol Annies Move Up The Charts

Miranda Lambert’s Four The Record continues to sell strongly, with a 21% increase over last week, and it’s now 91,000 copies away from scanning Gold, while it’s already certified Gold. Current single “Over You” looks to follow “Baggage Claim” to #1. Pistol Annies’s Hell On Heels scores a 15% sales increase and now has sold 260,000 copies, a strong number for an album from a ‘vanity project’ for Miranda Lambert (though she insists it’s a serious move for her career).  Other notable albums this week include Brantley Gilbert’s Halfway To Heaven. With “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do” already Top 30 after just 10 weeks, the album has now sold nearly 440,000 copies. Blake Shelton’s Red River Blue (7,000), Jake Owen’s Barefoot Blue Jean Night (5,000), Lauren Alaina’s Wildflower (4,000), Chris Young’s Neon (3,400) and Hunter Hayes’ self-titled album (2,400).
