Single Review: Jerrod Niemann - "Shinin' On Me"

Jerrod Niemann has built his career on the platform of offering fans a unique artist capable of delivering songs that aren't paint by number copy cats of anything else on country radio. Take a look at what we have to say about his new single "Shinin' On Me" here.

Like “Lover, Lover,” “Shinin’ On Me” is very much a contemporary tune but it doesn’t forego country traditions, instead, it builds on them. The melody is infectious and inviting as is Jerrod’s strong affinity to providing something instantly recognizable and different from everything else on country radio. It’s the exact thing that made him one to watch to begin with.

The lyrics follow the sunny, breezy Sublime-like melody with lyrics that are all about living in and enjoying the moment instead of worrying about the things you cannot change.  There are layered harmonies and a sweetly charming vibe to the whole song.  It’ll be very hard to see “Shinin’ On Me” becoming anything but a smash hit of 2012’s spring/summer season and an instant concert staple with a ‘sing a long’ chorus that will fans will eat up live.

Some fans may have hoped for Jerrod Niemann to deliver something deeply traditional and steel guitar laced but this song both suits Niemann’s personality and his affinity for being able to offer fans variety. “Shinin’ On Me” is his fourth single with Sea Gayle/Aristsa and from each of these singles, we’ve heard a slightly different sound. That’s a trait that’s similar to Zac Brown Band and something that should be commended.
