Mark Cooke - Living For The Weekend

Newcomer Mark Cooke arrived on the country music scene in 2010 with the single "Can't Cheat in A Small Town" and finally released Living For The Weekend this week. Read on to find out more about this new sixpack release here!

With Living For The Weekend, Mark Cooke has released a ‘sixpack’ EP which features six tunes. The new single “Any Way The Wind Blows” kicks off the EP and it’s an up tempo slice of mainstream country music that finds a man who proclaims how much he loves the woman in his life and how he declares that he’ll follow her anywhere she goes or “Any way the wind blows.” It may not be a rocket science kind of song but it’s still a strong song, something that can also be said about the title track “Living For The Weekend.” This slice of honky tonk heaven certainly feels like a party anthem and it’s not hard to imagine it replacing “Finally Friday” as the five o’clock drive song for country stations across the nation.

“Stay With Me tonight” shows off a softer, tender side to Cooke’s vocals and it finds him emoting perhaps better than on any other song on the record while the closing “I’ll Take This Town” works in tandem with “Can’t Cheat In A Small Town” for its story of small-town life (only a different take on the story). In fact, of all the songs on this record, this one feels like the biggest hit on the record and it helps me realize the artist I think Mark Cooke most resembles vocally, Keith Anderson.

While nothing on this record is stop-the-presses-I-gotta-listen-now sort of song, nothing on the record is less than strongly made and if you were to be looking for a new artist to keep track of, you may have found him in Mark Cooke. Solid meat and potatoes country music is what Living For The Weekend is all about.
