Single Review: Miranda Lambert - "Over You"

"Baggage Claim" was easily the most well-receptive debut single from one of Miranda Lambert's four albums. Follow-ups have fared better but perhaps no follow-up single has been better than "Over You." Read on to see what we have to say about the single here.

What this song is not, is a detailed poetic description.  What it is is a raw account of pain and emotions.  The second verse is a particular standout, stating “You’re favorite records, make me feel better.  I know you didn’t mean to give them to me.”  It may not be He Stopped Loving Her Today, but it hits the spot nonetheless.  The production and melody of the song is solemn, and Miranda does a great job, giving a very pretty, controlled rendering of the song.  She really sets the tone, right from the opening line.

The song won’t please everyone; where I say solemn, some will say boring.  Where I say simple, some will say undeveloped.  But make no mistake, this song isn’t a slick, polished piece of radio fluff, it’s real life.  And I would quite surprised not to see this song receiving awards nominations during the upcoming year.  Four the Record may be a bit uneven at times, but this song is a certainly a standout to my ears, and one that will sound great on the radio this winter.
