Hunter Hayes - "Storm Warning"

With this song, Newcomer Hunter Hayes has arrived on the scene fully formed with the talent to play nearly any instrument on the stage and blessed with an elastic voice to boot.  Does this single have enough to suggest stardom for the ninteeen year-old?

The song starts with some tasty acoustic guitars juxtaposed with rhythmic drums, electric guitar backing up a lyric that compares a ‘beautiful mess’ of a girl to a storm.  The hook of “I’m gonna wish I had a storm warning” is catchy and it’s not hard to imagine hearing this one playing on country radio this year as Hayes shows off that voice that has lot more grit to it that people might expect and that might be because of Hayes being from the bayou of Louisiana where soulful music rules the day.

While this song is sure to have its detractors (because Hunter Hayes is firmly planted in crossover-capable country music a la The Flatts and Lady Antebellum), I can’t but help liking it thanks to that clever enough lyric, magnetic melody and charisma to burn, both vocally and melodically.  Welcome to the big leagues, kid.
