Artist Spotlight: Steve Holy

Steve Holy has been recording music for over a decade now and in that time his career has seen its shares of ups and downs. In this exclusive interview, Steve discusses his career and where he's at now, with new single "Love Don't Run" a bonafide hit single.

The year is half over, but for Curb Records recording artist Steve Holy, 2011 has been a great one so far. His latest single for the label, “Love Don’t Run” has made it to the Top-25 on the charts---his highest appearance there in quite some time. As the record continues to gain support from radio, Holy took time out to reflect for Roughstock.com concerning his career resurgence.‘

“Love Don’t Run’ has done well,” he says happily. “I’ve been away for a while, and just glad to be back in the game. "

Taking a break for radio isn’t something that Holy has been the happiest about, as he admits he would rather be out there, but he says there have been some positive aspects. “Taking a couple of years off allowed me to clear my head, and be a father. It’s just great to have had the time to put an album together. A lot of people don’t realize that you have your entire life to put that first album together. Your second one, you might have eighteen months to two years to put together. But, by taking time off, I feel I’ve compiled some pretty songs, and hopefully, if ‘Love Don’t Run’ continues, I won’t make the mistake of not following it up, if I’m fortunate.”

He says he is watching the chart each week, as he knows the higher the record goes, the more likely he will be releasing a new album for Curb----his first since Brand New Girlfriend in 2006. Holy says he hopes for that opportunity.

“I really do,” he says. “In my case right now, I have six songs ready. You want to give it your all, and give them what they want and deserve---your best.”

He’s excited for those fans to hear what he’s been up to. He thinks it will be well worth the five-year wait. “I’ve been writing, and listening to a lot of different material. I think that with the time off, I think this album would be stronger than it would have been if I had been on the road,” he says, while adding that the ever-changing world at radio makes for a difference in promoting himself.  “There’s so many different PD’s and MD’s out there, I feel like it’s a start-over process. There’s still a lot of familiar faces out there. I’m going to spend the majority of the year out there re-establishing the relationships with the ones I know, and starting them with the newer radio guys,” he elaborates.

The singer of such hits as “Don’t Make Me Beg” and the power ballad “Good Morning Beautiful” says that radio has been behind him from the start. “I remember being so scared to death, coming out back in 2000, but everyone in radio was so friendly. It’s like a family for me,” he says, admitting that he’s energized and ready to start meeting the gatekeepers of the Country Music airwaves again.

Besides that, he’ll be keeping an eye on the chart, hoping to get his music out to the people so he can perform it live. “Hopefully, my touring will start at the end of the summer, and we can finish out the year pretty strong with live shows,” he says.
