Blake Shelton Scores Career First This Week With "Red River Blue"

With nearly 120,000 copies scanned, Blake Shelton scored the first all-genre #1 album of his career with Red River Blue. Read on to find out how Chris Young and Ashton Shepherd fared with their debuts of Neon and Where Country Grows

Blake Shelton's Red River Blue leads all albums this week, outselling even veteran rock act Incubus by nearly 40,000 albums on the SoundScan Top 200 Current Albums.  With 116,402 copies sold this week, the album was more than 43,000 copies ahead of Chris Young's Neon, the 2nd best-selling country album this week. Jason Aldean's My Kinda Party not only gained a slight 1% increase in sales over last week, but the album also surpassed the 1.5 million scanned mark this week as well, just as "Dirt Road Anthem" hits #1 on the chart. Justin Moore's Outlaws Like Me slides to #4 this week on the chart but still did manage to sell over 20,000 copies in its fourth week on the charts. Rounding out the Top 5 this week is Brad Paisley's This Is Country Music. The album has now scanned over 362,000 copies in eight weeks on the SoundScan Albums Chart.

Scotty McCreery's American Idol Season 10: Highlights EP gained a 23% sales increase over last week - most likely due to Walmart getting more copies of the EP in stock - and he's now sold over 71,000 copies of the album. Zac Brown Band's The Foundation also slides out of the Top 5 country albums this week but the group, which is getting close to topping the charts with "Knee Deep," their collaboration with Jimmy Buffett. Taylor Swift's Speak Now is the 8th best-selling country music album this week, on the strength of 12,000 more fans taking the album home. The various artist Now That's What I Call Country Music! - Volume 4 has now moved over the 80,000 copies sold mark which makes it one of the best-selling country collections of the past couple of years. The Band Perry's The Band Perry finishes up the Top 10 this week with the album finding nearly 12,000 more fans.

Ashton Shepherd debuts with the 11th best-selling country record on the SoundScan Top 200 Current Albums chart this week with Where Country Grows. As her singles continue to gain an audience, the album likely will do better as well. Blake Shelton's previous album Loaded...The Best of Blake Shelton sits next with another 9,200 fans picking up a copy of the album (many of them likely got both this and Red River Blue at the same time). Lady Antebellum's Need You Now sold 1% more copies than last week and still outpaces Taylor Swift's Speak Now by 30,000 copies or so in the race to have 2010's best-selling country album. Rascal Flatts' Nothing Like This is marching towards platinum with Hemingway's Whiskey from Kenny Chesney fast on their heels.

Lauren Alaina's own American Idol Season 10: Highlights EP sold nearly 6,500 more copies to give the season's runner-up and 19/Interscope/Mercury Nashville artist sales of 37,000 copies. Ronnie Dunn has officially scanned over 100,000 copies since releasing his self-titled album in May. His second single "Cost Of Livin'" is already heading towards the Top 10 like lead single "Bleed Red" is doing. Zac Brown Band's second album on this rundown is next and the amazing thing is that it's the second-oldest album on the chart at 139 weeks old. Sara Evans' Stronger is next and has sold nearly a quarter of a million copies on the strength of "A Little Bit Stronger" alone. If she scores a few more hits, Sara's looking at a likely Gold-selling album. Tim McGraw rounds out the Top 20 with Number One Hits. the album has sold nearly 400,000 copies which means in RIAA terms, it's at 800,000 copies scanned as it heads towards platinum as a double disc album.

The interesting albums section features Thompson Square with their self-titled efford passing the 200,000 albums scanned mark, giving them 2011's best-selling album from a new artist as "I Got You" looks ready to join "Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not" as a remarkable hit. Alison Krauss & Union Station's Paper Airplane now has sold 252,000 copies while Colt Ford's Every Chance I Get surpassed the 80,000 mark this week. Keith Urban's "Long Hot Summer" is helping Get Closer move more and more copies and the superstar has now sold 615,000 copies of the latest album from Capitol Records. Kasey Chambers, the Australian singer/songwriter, sees Little Bird get a proper stateside release and the album placed at 176 on the SoundScan Top 200 Albums Chart this week.
