New Artist Spotlight: Jason Mitchell

Newcomer Jason Mitchell had an eventful 2010 with the success of "Slow And Steady," a touching ballad. Now back working on new material with an A-list producer, Jason recently discussed his career so far and where he hopes it goes in the future. Read on to find out more.

It’s hard to believe, but the first half of 2011 is almost over. There have been some great musical moments in the first six months of the year, but there looks to be some great ones down the road as well.

One performer who is getting ready for the rest of the year is Jason Mitchell. The artist, who had a 2010 to remember with the success of “Slow and Steady,” will soon be back at radio with a new single.

“We’ve got a new single coming out this summer called ‘Undressed,” Mitchell told Roughstock.com. The song was written by someone you might not expect to pen such a song with a steamy title. “Cledus T. Judd wrote it, and we got to meet him. It’s just weird. You meet this person, then that one, and before you know it, you’re meeting all these people that you looked up to.”

Jason Mitchell Grows Up In The Industry

Meeting people from the business is nothing new to Mitchell, as he grew up with a front row seat to the industry. His father, Dan, wrote a 1984 number one for Alabama, “If You’re Gonna Play In Texas (You’ve Gotta Have A Fiddle In The Band).” Mitchell remembers the song fondly, saying that “He just got his third ‘Million Air’ award for the song,” he says proudly.

Mitchell also had a front row seat to what goes on behind the scenes of the business---literally. He recalls being with his father when he would have meetings with Dale Morris, legendary manager of Alabama and Kenny Chesney.

“I remember sitting at the bottom of his stairs next to his office playing with my toys when Dad would meet with him, and everything comes full circle,” he says, referring to the fact that he is now working with the highly esteemed Morris. “I’ve known him for a long time. He’s a great guy.”

Jason Mitchell Works on New Music

Also on the Mitchell team is the legendary producer James Stroud. Jason says he still wonders if someone is going to pinch him and wake him up as it still seems he has woke up in a dream. “It is very cool. He just had all the success with Chris Young, so being in that same crowd with him and Dale Morris is very cool, and makes you proud of what we’re working on with this project.”

Mitchell can’t wait to get the new single out to radio, as he continues to schedule dates throughout the summer and fall. He’s no stranger to the road, after having seen a bunch of it last time out. “I saw everything from the Bahamas to the Grand Canyon doing shows. It was some of the coolest stuff I have ever done. We travelled the country, and I got to see a lot of cool stuff through a windshield. We did 150 shows in 2010----not including radio tour or recording time,” he says, admitting that he’s ready to strike it hard in 2011.
