Phil Vassar - "Lets Get Together"

After recording two albums for Unviersal South, Phil Vassar has moved onto a new record label for his upcoming album release.  Read on to find out what Kyle Ward has to say about Phil's new single "Let's Get Together," the first single from that new album project.

In fact, the structure of the song is very reminiscent of Vassar’s last top 10 hit, “Love Is A Beautiful Thing”, in that the first verse builds a story of quirky people and happenings connected by the event of the chorus.  In the case of “Love Is A Beautiful Thing”, the event was a wedding, and it worked perfectly as the chorus told of the conventional story of the wedding and verses told the other side, the characters in attendance.   With this song though, there isn’t much to tell.  The big event in the chorus is just a party with Vassar imploring everyone to “Get Together.”  If Vassar weren’t so good at coming up with catchy rhymes that were fun to sing along to, this single would be entirely forgettable.  But Phil is still quite gifted, and that’s enough to elevate this to the point where it’s still a fun listen, even if it doesn’t really say much.  Given radio’s lukewarm response to Vassar’s last album, this type of release is certainly understandable, and if it keeps Phil on the radio long enough for him to release another great song, then it’s certainly ok in my book.
