Rascal Flatts - "I Won't Let Go"

With "Why Wait" scoring a #1 slot and giving the trio a Gold record in Nothing Like This, Rascal Flatts has smoothly made the transition to Big Machine Records. Will this tender ballad give the trio a second consecutive #1 hit? How does it differ from past hits, if at all?

Each year country music has a few songs that work well as wedding first dance songs and “I Won’t Let Go” is 2011’s version of that.  But you know what, it works for more than romantic situations.  It could be about a best friend being there through thick and thin, it could be a parent showing support for their child, and it could be a community that won’t let their poverty stricken people fall through the cracks.  It’s an inspirational type of song and along with LeVox’s measured vocal, the harmonies from Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney provide icing on the cake while Dann Huff and the band’s production isn’t masked in a wall of sound like some past tunes have.

Rascal Flatts has rarely, if ever, sounded better than they do on “I Won’t Let Go,” which means that country radio will eat this song up and I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one cross over to adult contemporary radio stations and even gain popularity in the UK as it’s a universal theme that is for sure more than ‘just’ a country song (the production doesn’t really have any ‘country markers’ either).   While some will still find reason to drink some of  the ‘hateraid’ that many ‘traditionalist’ fans for anything the group does, this is a song that could end up being one of the biggest hits they have ever had.
