Jason Michael Carroll - Christmas On The Farm EP

Jason Michael Carroll has scored a few hits including "Alyssa Lies" and "Where I'm From" in his career yet he still was let go of his record deal.  His first independent release is this holiday EP does it suggest a future that'

For his first project on his own Stray Records label, Jason Michael Carroll has chosen to release the fantastic Christmas on the Farm, which includes the title track as a radio single.  The song will hit home for anyone who ‘sits around the table telling stories and strumming guitars.’  The song is jovial and a perfect addition to yuletide Country Radio playlists.

With the title tune being the only ‘new’ song on this short, five song ‘album’, Jason Michael Carroll certainly could’ve mailed-in renditions of the classics he presents here.  Instead, what we get are passionate, rustic rentions of “Silent Night,” with a sweet harmonic choral background providing harmonies behind his fantastic baritone.  “O Little Town of Bethlehem” too gives Carroll a chance to showcase off his fantastic voice.

“Joy To The World” has a melody laced with mandolins and bouzoukis – the solo is fantastic - and acoustic guitars and it feels like it is coming from a bluegrass background more than a traditional country melody with bass and high harmonies helping Jason out.  The EP-closing “Auld Lang Syne” is more often used to celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of another year and it has a tastefully laid-back take here.

The only real problem with this EP is that it is an EP as Jason Michael Carroll and his producer Patrick Davis (a songwriter as well) have crafted something that really could’ve been a 10 song offering.  It gives me hope that Jason Michael Carroll will be releasing some fantastic stuff in the coming future through the Stray Records label.
