Tim McGraw - "Felt Good On My Lips"

What happens when you mix the energy of a Sugarland song with Tim McGraw and put it into a blender?  Well you might just come out with a song like "Felt Good On My Lips," the latest single from Tim McGraw. It's the first single from his "#1's Hits" two-disc set.

With one of the most consistent ‘ears’ in mainstream country music, Tim McGraw sure knows what a hit single sounds like and “Felt Good On My Lips” sure feels like a hit single.  It’s the kind of earworm that wouldn’t feel outta place coming from Sugarland with the pronouns changed a little bit.  It’s a progressive ‘country pop’ song and gives us a slice-of-life song with the guy not quite sure what’s happening but saying ‘it felt good on my lips.’

The chorus is catchy with repeatable lyrics and a progressive melody that gives Tim McGraw one of his most engaging singles in a while.  It feels like the kind of shimmery song that will keep Tim McGraw in the good graces of not only country radio and CMT but also in the goodwill of fans as he does make his way towards the inevitable end of his label deal with Curb Records (before he sets out on his own or with a more ‘artist friendly’ contract with another label).

A good song is a good song and this one certainly qualifies as that. It may not be as great to me as the Toby Keith single that was released to radio the same day but that’s not the point, is it?  As far as recent Tim McGraw singles go, this is miles ahead as one of his best of the last couple of years, and that’s a darn good thing.
