News Briefs: Nashville Flood update and Julianne Hough news

In today's news round-up we give updates on the Nashville-area floods and some other country music news.  Included in the flood update is info about Keith Urban, Big Kenny, Jo Dee Messina and Julie Roberts.  There is CMA Fest information as well.

Nashville Flood Update

With the waters receding, the cleanup has just begun.  If you’re in Nashville you can go to Hands On Nashville (click here) to sign up to volunteer. If you’re not in Nashville you can text “REDCROSS” to 90999 and $10 will be donated to the Middle Tennessee Red Cross Disaster Relief effort.

Keith Urban told CNN’s Rick Sanchez yesterday: "I went through this in Australia in 1974. I was very young, but we had this kind of 100-year flood in my city, and it's just unfathomable," Urban said. "It's possible that as much as I haven't lost what everybody else has, I've probably lost all of my road equipment, and all my guitars, and amp and everything."

Like many country artists, Urban had been storing his gear at Soundcheck, a rehearsal facility on the edge of the swollen Cumberland River.

Jo Dee Messina:  "There is as much water in [the] house as in the pool," she said via Twitter. "Thank God for our neighbors letting us borrow pump. Thx to franklin police 4 getting us home."

Big Kenny sustained damage to his dining room and wine cellar and hurt his back while pumping the water out.

Many other artists, including Juile Roberts who lost everything including three cars, were affected by this flood.

CMA Music Festival Will Continue

The CMA Music Festival will go on as planned and this is a good thing as the event generates over 22 million dollars in revenue for Nashville and is the area’s biggest event of the year.  It will likely take on a different attitude this year with lots of places for fans to donate to help the area recover.

The Country Music Hall of Fame will reopen as soon as the power comes back on downtown.

Julianne Hough To Return to Dancing With The Stars This Fall

The two-time winner of the “Mirrorball” will return to the 11th season of TV’s most popular show this fall.  She last appeared in 2009 on the 8th season with former boyfriend and country star Chuck Wicks.  Julianne will be promoting both her sophomore album for Mercury Nashville and her upcoming film Burlesque.

Sammy Kershaw To Run for Lt. Gov in Louisiana Again

In case you missed our news item on Monday, we wanted to remind folks that country star Sammy Kershaw is setting up to run for the Lt. Gov. post in his homestate of Louisiana once again.  He's running on a platform for the people.
