First 'Major' Benefit Brings in $1.7M in Donations

WSMV in Nashville coordinated a benefit and asked Nashville resident and country icon Vince Gill to be the headlining act for thursday night's 3.5 hour-long benefit.  Guests like Keith Urban, Larry Gatlin, Amy Grant, Jeff Hanna and more lent their voices to the event.

In what was the first of many benefits happing in Nashville and other areas to support flood victims from last weekend’s amazing monsoons, Vince Gill and friends took to the WSMV Television studios and raised over $1.7 million for disaster relief.  The money is going to be spread out to the Red Cross of Middle Tennessee, Second Harvest of Middle Tennessee and the Salvation Army.  Taylor Swift called in and gave $500,000 of the money collected and Vince Gill and his wife Amy Grant gave $100,000 themselves.  Reba made a separate donation to the Red Cross in the amount of $100,000 herself today.

GAC announced Thursday it will air a telethon on May 16 that will include Brad Paisley, Lady Antebellum, Dierks Bentley, Rodney Atkins and other stars live from the Ryman Auditorium.

On CNN Anderson Cooper discussed how Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are working on a benefit show ‘sometime in June,’ while also showing some scenes from the benefit tonight while also giving a big spotlight on the recovery efforts.  While other news stations may have mentioned the flood, they really didn’t give it as much attention (and neither did CNN) until today.

We will continue to give you updates as they come in.  If you wish to help folks in need feel free to go to the Nashville Red Cross Website (click here), Second Harvest of Middle Tennessee (click here) or the Salvation Army of Middle Tennessee (click here).

One other place you can go to donate money or time (if you’re within driving distance to lend a hand) is by visiting the Hands On Nashville website (click here).
