As to be expected, last week’s sales numbers for country artists on this week’s Nielsen SoundScan Hot 200 chart is reflective of the lack of any new relases of note outside of former American Idol runner-up (same year as Carrie Underwood) Bo Bice’s 3 debuting at 142 with nearly 3,500 copies sold. We also didn’t chart the Court Yard Hounds project as it’s not ‘officially’ a country record as far as SoundScan is concerned. The album is over 100,000 copies sold in three weeks to market.
Lady Antebellum leads the Top 15 country albums on the Hot 200 Albums chart this week as Need You Now moved over the 2.1 million-scanned mark while retaining a Top 5 slot on the chart. The Zac Brown Band are the second-best selling country artist on the planet this week as The Foundation inches to the 2 million copies scanned mark. The ‘divas’ of country music round out the rest of the Top 5 as Miranda Lambert has the third best-selling country record this week with Revolution while Taylor Swift is behind her with her venerable nearly 6x platinum Fearless album. Carrie Underwood is next with her third recording Play On. With “Undo It” looking like a cross-over hit, she may just get this record over the 2 million mark sometime by the holidays as more fans clamor to buy the album (if they don’t ‘just’ get the single).

The Zac Brown Band’s Live Pass The Jar: Zac Brown Band and Friends album sits as the sixth best-selling country album on the Hot Country Albums chart this week while the Crazy Heart soundtrack continues to sell well and sits at #7 this week. Right behind that is the Lady Antebellum self-titled debut while this week’s biggest story is the retiring Brooks & Dunn’s #1’s and Then Some jumping nearly 90 slots on the chart to land in the country top 10 albums this week. Thanks to their tribute show The Last Rodeo on CBS this past Sunday, I expect them to remain in a similar position next week. Jason Aldean rounds out the Top 10 with his third album Wide Open. It’s now just fewer than 1.2 million copies sold.

Luke Bryan continues Doin [His] Thing on the charts as his album sits at #11 this week with another 6000 fans giving the album a new home while Laura Bell Bundy continues to be Achin’ and Shakin’ at #12 while Chris Young’s Man I Want To Be enjoys a slight sales boost and brings him back inside Country’s Top 15 on the Nielsen SoundScan chart this week. Colt Ford remains at 14 this week with Chicken and Biscuits while Easton Corbin from Easton Corbin jumped back inside the Top 15 albums this week as well. He’s now over 155,000 copies sold, which is about ½ of what Chris Young’s album has sold.

Josh Turner’s Haywire starts off the ‘interesting’ albums section as it’s now officially a quarter of a million seller as the second single “All Over Me” rises up the singles chart. American Saturday Night from Brad Paisley is the next album and it sits at 118 on this week’s Nielsen SoundScan Hot 200 Albums chart with anoter 4300 fans finding the album to their liking. Nearly 4200 fans did the same thing as Kenny Chesney’s Greatest Hits II now sits at nearly 650,000 copies sold. Danny Gokey’s debut single My Best Days Are Ahead of Me continues to rise up the charts while his debut album is nearing 150,000 copies sold. Perhaps this week’s idol finale will somehow help Gokey get more sales. Eric Church’s Carolina rounds out our rundown this week as the singer, who is moving from Capitol Nashville to sister label EMI Records Nashville, gets ready to release his third single from the album, “Smoke A Little Smoke.”

Next week we have a couple of ‘small’ releases like indie alt/country act Truth and Salvage Company’s debut and the debut of Gwen Sebastian’s VIP (Barefoot Girl) six pack album. How will the Brooks & Dunn tribute show affect the performers on the show? Check back here to find out at the same time and same place.
