Jessica Harp - "A Woman Needs"

Jessica Harp stormed on the country scene a few years back as 1/2 of the Wreckers with Michelle Branch.  While her debut single "Boy Like Me" managed a Top 40 birth, the single failed to ignite at Radio or CMT.  Will this title track to her upcoming album, do any better?

Despite getting her debut single “Boy Like Me” inside the Top 40 at Country radio last year, Jessica Harp is still primarily known as ½ of the Wreckers with her good friend Michelle Branch.  Working with Jerry Flowers, Jessica produced a whole record that was originally scheduled to be released last fall/winter by Warner Brothers Records however the label and Jessica agreed to delay the album until this year as they send the title track to the album, A Woman Needs to radio with the hopes that it can catch on more than “Boy Like Me” did.

Co-written by Jessica with her husband Jason and producer Jerry Flowers, “A Woman Needs” is a song that takes the well-worn “sow my oats” story and weaves into a cohesive mission statement about how we all need to ‘spend time on our own’ to find out who we are.  With a progressive country-pop like sounds as good as anything currently on country radio (gasp! There’s even banjos and steel guitar audible in the mix),  Jessica sings the lyrics with strong, individual freedom.

Like she says in the song, Jessica Harp needs time for a second chance to get acquainted with fans and all signs point that she’s got enough here to suggest an artist with the mainstream heart of the top stars along with a little rokin’ indie spirt to her music a-la Miranda Lambert.  With country radio’s core audience heavily skiewing to the female 18-35 demographic, this song should be a no-brainer, instant add for radio.
