Taylor Swift is Breaking Chart Records and Taking Names

Taylor Swift today achieved something no other artist has achieved this decade. Her self-titled debut album for Big Machine Records broke a record on the billboard charts for most time spent on it.  Taylor also will be making news with her upcoming SNL appearance.

In September of 2006, a 16 year old singer released her debut album to an unsuspecting audience.  The second release for a small record label, the self-titled album was supporting the singers innocent little single named after a famous superstar.  Haven’t guessed who we’re talking about yet? It’s Taylor Swift, the singer-songwriter who not only started on her rise to superstardom that autumn month over three years ago, she also helped her record label Big Machine Records grow as well.  Now Taylor’s the biggest star in all of music while her label is the most successful label in Nashville.

That little Taylor Swift album spawned multiple hits and it’s a record that keeps on giving.  Today it was announced that the record has broken the record for most weeks spent on the Hot 200 Albums charts that are compiled by Nielsen Soundscan for Billboard.  The record, which is now a remarkable 157 weeks, was taken from Alt Rockers Nickelback and it gives Taylor Swift this decade’s longest-charting album.  The album also has the distinction of giving Taylor Swift solace as she’s the only solo female country artist ever to score five top ten hit singles on the Hot Country Songs chart in over 44 years.

Swift, who recently locked-down five of iTunes’s all-genre singles chart with five of the six new tracks from her recently released Fearless [Platinum Edition], also will be hosting the November 7, 2009 edition of Saturday Night Live while preparing for the following week’s CMA Awards show, where she is nominated for four awards including Entertainer, Female Vocalist and Album of the Year for Fearless. She also garnered a total of six nominations from the American Music Awards, the most of any artist this year.
