Recent Album Releases - September 2009

Here's a roundup of the new album releases from August and September 2009.  Among new releases this months were the latest albums from Brooks & Dunn, Miranda Lambert, Terri Clark and Chris Young and the debut releases from Seth James and Nathan Lee Jackson.

Jason Aldean has become a popular artist on the strenght of songs that fill a niche within mainstream country music.  Is he able to translate his recorded music into a dynamic live show? Find out as we take a look at this live show DVD.

There are a few country music dynasties still in existence, still putting out great music under the radar, forgotten by "country" radio and "country" fans.  Tommy Cash's latest "Fade To Black" is one such album.

Radney Foster is one of those artists that seems to get better with each album he records.  While country radio has outgrown Radney (or is it Radney outgrew them), He still writes hits.  What makes this record worthy of listening to?

Brooks & Dunn have had a career that any country artist would envy. With their career (as a duo) winding down in 2010 with a tour, #1's...And Then Some feels like a great capper to a career.

Chris Young won Nashville Star in 2006 and then saw his album and singles get the cold shoulder at radio.  With "The Black Dress" song a hit, Chris returns with this album.  Will he continue to get hits from the record?

Terri Clark has returned to her roots with this album.  Recorded for her own record label, the album features the hit single "Gypsy Boots" and 10 other songs, all of which were co-produced and written by Terri.

Kentucky native Nathan Lee Jackson appears on the national scene with his this debut album for Star City Records.  The diverse record is the work of a talented artist but is it something most country fans will enjoy?

Independent artists have been able to make inroads with the 'Nashville establishment' thanks to the internet.  Matt Stillwell has had his profile increase over the last year thanks to hits like "Shine" and "Sweet Sun Angel."

Deryl Dodd released three albums for Sony Nashville before returning home to Texas where he's seen his career flourish.  The album features a cover of the Buck Owens-penned title track and 12 other tunes.

Diamond Rio are one of the most popular country music groups of all time and like fellow star group Alabama, Diamond Rio is taking time to release a Christian album.  Does the record stand up to their past hit albums?

Adam Steffey is one of the world's best mandolin players and for this latest record on Sugar Hill Records, Adam has called in some of his friends like Alison Krauss and Ronnie Bowman to lend some support. How did it turn out?

Gene Watson is a legendary vocalist with a honeyed tenor and while many of his contemporaries are happy to live in retirement, Gene Watson keeps making strong albums.  How does this one stack up against his previous albums?

Country music has always had a large tent for which artists and albums have fallen under the bannar.  Seth James is the latest Texan to mix roadhouse blues and rock into the mix.  The album features the hit single "Leaves of September."

When you get to the lauded level that the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has gotten to, it's easy to 'coast' with new releases that don't really have any difference from what's found in past recordings.  Thankfully, the NGDB isn't that kind of band. The album features the great ballad "The Resurrection."

While touring to support last year's Sleepless Nights Patty Loveless realized how much people loved Mountain Soul, her 2001 release which featured rootsy bluegrass arrangements so she decided to do this record, a follow-up album.

Miranda Lambert has steadily built a career where fans actually go purchase her records and support her on tour.  Will her third album raise her status even more with some consistent radio airplay or will it follow the trends of the first two?

As an act with few true radio hits, a Greatest Hits project for Big & Rich might seem like a little stretch but if you consider the fact that the duo's albums were always more than their radio hits, the time is probably ripe for such a CD.

Loudon Wainwright III has made plenty of great roots music albums over his career and reurns now with a lovely tribute to Charlie Poole that is an album as layered and complex as the man it pays homage to.

While fans wait for the full-length albums to see the light of day, Mallary Hope, Daniel Smith, Anthony Smith, Brothers Finch, and Easton Corbin have all released EPs of 3-6 songs to hold fans over.  Are the EPs worth buying?
