Country Singer Kevin Skinner Wins America's Got Talent

With the economy down in the dumps,  what better way than to feel better than select a man who is similar to the audience he's performing to.  Unemployed throughout the show, Kentucky native Kevin Skinner took home the million dollar prize.

In a development that is sure to stun many in the United States, former chicken catcher Kevin Skinner became America’s own Susan Boyle. However, instead of being the runner-up of America’s Got Talent, Kevin Skinner, a simple man with a decent country singin’ voice- won the whole dang thing.  Kevin Skinner’s prize included one million dollars and the chance to be the headliner of the America’s Got Talent show in Las Vegas.  The performance that got Skinner the gig was a nice, but not great, rendition of Mark Chesnutt and Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing.”

Unemployed when he tried out for America’s Got Talent, the Mayfield, KY native’s  story resonated with an American public currently struggling to make ends meet as the economy continues to make its recovery out of a deep financial crisis.  Quite simply, the reason Kevin Skinner won WAS because he is Joe Public and not some glamorous looking young kid.  Instead he was a haggard-looking everyman who sang songs like “Aways On My Mind,” “If Tomorrow Never Comes” and “To Make You Feel My Love.”

While it remains to be seen if Skinner will go on to score a record deal in Nashville or not, his life has certainly changed for the better thanks to the prize he won by winning 2009’s summer season of America’s Got Talent.
