Taylor Swift - "Fifteen"

Taylor Swift has become the voice of this generation's teens and with that throne comes the opportunity for an artist to speak directly to that audience and with "Fifteen," Taylor Swift does just that with a song that may be the most important thing she's ever done.

If you are wondering why Taylor Swift has become the voice for teens and tweens everywhere you needn’t look any further than her last single “You Belong To Me” and her new single “Fifteen.”  One tells of the pitfalls of being the ‘unpopular’ girl who’d love a boy for who he is (and how cute he is) if only given a chance while the other (“Fifteen”) serves as an advice column ripped right out of the pages of “Seventeen” or some other youth targeted magazine or website.    Both songs are sharp, teen-centric songs that may fly by some adults as nothing but more ‘teen music crap’ but in reality, even if the songs are  hook-filled, they are two of the better written youth targeted tracks.

Fifteen, in particular, is one of those songs that will ultimately hit home for kids who live of the moment, by the moment because it serves as a cautionary tale to remind kids that life does indeed go on, even when it seems like it possibly can’t.  It’s a great song to tell kids (and some adults) that life isn’t nearly as bad as it feels in that intense moment, particularly when you fall in love with someone and the relationship invariably moves on, be it days, weeks or months later.  Life doesn’t end.

Music can often drive home a message that parents can’t get across to their children, particularly stuff that’s written from a still-teenaged singer or idol, so Taylor and her team have partnered with Bestbuy’s @15 Campaign to make students aware that life doesn’t end at 15.
