Brad Paisley - "Welcome To The Future"

For his second single from the just-released "American Saturday Night," Brad Paisley has chosen to release the song that might just be the most unique thing he's done.  There's something about the melody that is sure to be polarizing.  Will it become his 11th #1 hit?

With the release of this single, it’s safe to say that Brad Paisley’s not one to rest on his laurels with “Welcome To The Future.”  The song (listen here) has some interesting “futuristic” guitar notes that recall old-school video game music but thankfully it quickly gives way to steel guitar and heartland rock-like acoustic guitar strumming before using his familiar vocal style to sing a song that sometimes feels as if he re-wrote the lyrics of “Letter To Me” to instead find his past self ‘transported’ to the future to see the way life is now.  It’s an interesting direction to take a song as it describes how life changes over time and how we move on and become friends with those we once seemed to be enemies with.

Traditionalists won’t like the guitar trick I mentioned above too much (or the atmospheric U2 feel of the whole track) but those who listen to mainstream country radio will certainly like the marriage of traditional country instruments with that U2-esque approach as music seemingly shifts to ignore genre definitions, even if nobody will actually mistake Brad Paisley for U2.  This is a song that takes a measured risk and it’s something that should very easily become Brad Paisley’s 11th chart-topping hit in a row as that melody is just too fun (masking the somewhat ‘re-written’ lyrics) not to get fans requesting it over and over again.
