Sara Evans - "Feels Just Like A Love Song"

Sara Evans certainly has lived a gossip-filled past couple of years.  As her hits seemed to stay outside the Top 10 ore even the Top 20, she had a public divorce and, then, a public marriage.  This song chronicles the latter but is it enough to return her to the top of the charts.&l

In the past three years, Sara Evans' career has been on a major decline. Not only has she consistently failed to reach the Top 10, but she has also had various controversies weigh her down, punctuated by a messy divorce. With that all out of the way now, though, it's the perfect time for Sara to regain traction at country radio. While "Feels Just Like a Love Song" (listen here) may not be that one killer track that sends her back to the top of the charts, it's certainly a solid enough comeback.

This song finds her working with producer Nathan Chapman, who also mans the boards for Taylor Swift. The song has the same candy-coated production and same effervescent melody of Swift's material. While this slick sound is a bit of a letdown after her impressive stab at gospel-tinged bluegrass in "Low" (from the Billy: The Early Years soundtrack), it's punchy and hooky enough to stick in the mind.

It's not that far removed topically from her 2008 single "Some Things Never Change". She's got a new family and a new love, and she's feeling oh so happy about it all. Just like "Some Things", it's not a particularly inspired lyric, but at the same time, it's far from the cringingly cliche'd mess that it could have been. It's greatly elevated by Evans' consistently strong, twangy voice, despite a couple lapses into heavy pitch correction.

"Feels Just Like a Love Song" really isn't all that different from many of Sara Evans' past singles. But given what she's been through lately, it's hard to blame her for essentially picking up where she left off.
