Pat Green - "What I'm For"

Pat Green scored a Top 10 hit with "Let Me" and then followed it up with "Country Star" which was slowly but surely rising up the charts yet Pat and his label have decided to change course, at radio's request, and issue "What I'm For" as a single.  Was it a smart decision?

In a bit of a surprise move, Pat Green and his label BNA Records have stopped promoting their Top 40 single "Country Star" and instead turned to this song, the title track to Pat's 2nd album for BNA (read CD review here).  Written by Marc Beeson and Allen Shamblin, "What I'm For" is a song weaved together by statments and despite it being part of the plethora of 'list songs' that are all the rage these days, the song never feels like it's just random stuff thrown together for the sake of a hook.  "What I'm For" feels like a genuine statement from an artist who wants people to understand him enough to not make assumptions about him.

This song, like "Country Star" is a song I think could do well on radio. Given the fact that BNA is listening to radio in switching to "What I'm For" makes me think that perhaps Pat will have himself another Top 20 hit and maybe, just maybe, a Top 10 hit from this single.
