Kenny Chesney - Greatest Hits II

With a plethora of hits since his last Greatest Hits album at the beginning of this decade, Kenny Chesney's "Greatest Hits II" was long overdue for compilation and release.  Will this collection appeal to older fans or just new fans?

As one of country music's most bankable stars, it's surprising to some to find out that Kenny Chesney's career didn't start out in around 2001 when he started releasing his beach-themed party tunes and sensitive soul-searching ballads. In fact, Chesney was a mid-tier star with enough hits (like "Me and You" and "Don't Think Twice" to name a pair) to release a Greatest Hits record.  Now, that he's a been the reigning top touring artist for the last few years, Kenny has finally come out with his second "Greatest Hits" album, "Greatest Hits II" With more than enough hits to satisfy three of this kind of collection, Chesney offers up what feels like you'd hear as the set-list at one of his show.

The collection stars off with the new track and single "Out Last Night."  As a song for this "Greatest Hits II" collection, the song bridges the gap, oddly enough, with the first collection as it has a sound that recalls both "old school" Kenny and Superstar Chesney in parts.  It's a fun, summer party anthem that has some beach rhythms, like much of Kenny's latest songs but the melody and vocal are far more like (i.e. more traditional sounding) what he recorded in the 90's. The rest of this collection features party staples like "Young," "Summertime," "When The Sun Goes Down," "Beer In Mexico"  and "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems" with the soft mellower tunes "Anything But Mine," this year's #1 hit duet "Down The Road" with Mac McAnally and "The Good Stuff."

Aside from "Out Last Night," fans likely have all of the songs on this CD. Still, for fans of the radio hits or those without the disposable income to purchase CD after CD, "Greatest Hits II" is, along with "Greatest Hits" a great way to get most of the songs you love from Kenny Chesney and that's enough to recommend this album to fans.
