Dierks Bentley - Sideways

Dierks Bentley has garnered a lot of loyal fans with his ability to deliver hit after hit to country radio.  While he's sometimes sounded same-song-y from time to time, that compaint cannot be levied against this single.  Will the sonic change-up lead to another hit?

It seems that country music artists are noticing the sad state of the USA economy and the fact that people will enjoy music as a way to escape from their mundane everyday life.  In fact Dierks Bentley’s “Sideways” seems to be written from just that point of view.  While the lyrics do get a little silly, the song is all about having fun on the weekends with this refrain driving the point home: “Worked all week, It’s time to play, Gonna get a little bit sideways.”

The melody helps to create the mood as the driving rhythm is pulsated by banjo and twangy lead guitar and steel guitar solos firmly in the mix as the crowd of people in the background help Dierks sing the chorus.  If Dierks Bentley’s goal was to create a song with a sing-a-long moment for his shows or to be sung by bar bands nationwide, he’s done so with “Sideways,” a song that’s likely to drive people to purchase his album along with having a hell of a goodtime with friends with the “Feel That Fire” album playing in the background.
