Randy Travis To Mentor American Idol contestants

American Idol is going Country for a week as the Top 11 perform songs from Grand Ole Opry Members.  Roughstock has learned what songs they can choose from.  Opry member Randy Travis will mentor the kids while Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley will perform.

Every season American Idol has a "Country Music Week" and this season, the show's 8th is no different.  But the timing of the show is for they usually reserve it for later in the competition.  Perhaps the lack of any obvious country singers makes for the earlier appearance, but there are a pair of male vocalists on the show, Michael Sarver and front runner Danny Gokey that would be wise to follow the Country music path, given their backgrounds on the show.

On March 17, 2009 the American Idol conestants will be mentored by Country legend and Grand Ole Opry star Randy Travis.  The contestants will choose any song from a Grand Ole Opry member's catalog and sing it on the show.  Travis, who's two-disc career retrospective drops the same day, will guide the contestants in all of the ways to sing a classic country song.  Carrie Underwood, the most successful Idol contestant ever (in the USA), will sing a duet version of her latest hit, with the song's original performer and writer, Travis, during the results show on March 18, 2009.  Underwood recently was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.  Brad Paisley will also be performing his upcoming single "Then" on the show.
