Marcel - "Believin'"

What is it about country music that makes it the music of the common people? In a word? Believability.  And that's what this single is' believable.  Not only believable but also heart-felt and honest, in other words the perfect song to launch a career with.

What is it about country music that makes me like it?

This is a question I've been asked more times than I can count.  It's a question that ruffles my feathers when it's implied that I have no taste in music or that the music that I like is either trite or soulless.  I have long held to the notion that the reason Country music hooked me while I was growing up was the mere fact that a majority of the songs were relatable to real life experiences.

That's exactly what I like about Marcel's new single "Believin'." It is, at its core, a song ripped right from his life circa 2002.  It chronicles the ups and downs of his life in the music business and, in this time of economic depression, the song feels as if it's about America or better yet, the everyday, hard working type of person who country music has always represented. They may be down but through sheer hard work and faith, they will make it out ok:

"I've been the talk of the town/been juggled around/A few friends I have lost/I guess I've played the clown/I've been promised and primed/been moments I cried for/Better days, better ways/I thought about leavin', but I stuck it out/picked up my chin and keep on believin'"

This song may or may not be the song to finally break Marcel to a wide audience but with a theme and message that hits right at the heart of America and country artists, "Believin" is undoubtedly another example of why I love country music.
