Tim McGraw - "Nothing To Die For"

With this single, Tim's label Curb has culled a seventh radio track from "Let It Go," a record which was released nearly two years ago.  While some of those singles failed to do much, the last one, "Let It Go," Went Top 5.  Will this ballad have similar success?

Almost two years after his album Let It Go was released, Tim McGraw sent his seventh single from the CD, the crossover/Adult Contemporary-styled “Nothin’ To Die For,” to radio in late December 2008. The song’s thumping, palm-muted rhythm guitar and the central melody’s ghostly reverb offer a fitting backdrop for the lyrical plea to reverse the progression of alcoholism. The vocals are standard Tim McGraw – good but not really pushing toward unforgettable. Here, it’s the song’s tight rhythm section that really drives the tune. The low, mid-tempo 1/8th notes from the bass are locked in perfect time with the percussion to move the song along. The music doesn’t alter much throughout, but it doesn’t have to, as this piece is more of a glimpse at a life that may be cut early to alcoholism.
