Top 40 Singles of 2008: Jimmy Wayne - "Do You Believe Me Now" (#26)

Jimmy Wayne returned to the airwaves this year after a four year hiatus in a big way with the polarizing "Do You Believe Me Now."  Featuring an ultra-modern melodic sound, the song certainly made people talk and it is good enough to be our 26th favorite of the year.

Sometimes a song can come seemingly outta nowhere and capture the attention (good or bad) of critics and fans alike.  These songs tend to be polarizing affairs with people either really liking or hating the song.  There really isn't much of an in-between type of person for these songs.   Featuring a melody that melds alternative rock guitars and 80's arena pop-like vocals to country lyrics, "Do You Believe Me Now" is one of those songs and it certainly sparked a lot of discussion within the country music community. That was enough to get Jimmy Wayne back on the minds and in the hearts of programmers and listeners all over the country and it gave him his first hit in about four years.

While I was a bit unsure of the single the first time I heard it, I was quickly a believer in "Do You Believe Me Now" and figured it was going to be the song that finally broke Jimmy Wayne at radio, even if it had that polarizing effect on people.  The production by the song's co-writers Dave Pahanish and Joe West was so different that it galvanized a sound and identity for the earnest vocal and lyrics from Jimmy Wayne.  All of this makes the single truly one of the better country-pop singles in years and it is Roughstock's 26th favorite single of 2008.
