Top 40 Singles of 2008: Lady Antebellum - Lookin' For A Good Time (# 39)

For the end of the year our Editors have chosen the Top 40 Singles from 2008. Here's the 39th entrant on the list, Capitol Records' trio Lady Antebellum with their sophomore single "Lookin' For A Good Time."

While other websites and magazines obstinately release one of these lists every year, they’re done for a reason: they’re fun to make and read.  Who doesn’t like looking back at the year gone by and some of the songs that shaped up that year?  With that in mind the editorial team at Roughstock has chosen their 40 favorite singles of the year.  We start the list with number forty and will count down, daily, our favorite singles of the year.  Here's our 39th favorite single: Lady Antebellum's "Lookin' For A Good Time."

It was about this time, a year ago that Lady Antebellum started on their path to the Best New Artist trophy from the CMA.  It is a completely justified award (given the competition).  Their self-titled debut caught my immediate attention upon its release and it’s been one of my most played albums of the year, which is saying something given the sheer amount of country albums I hear over the course of the year.    This song, while firmly in the mainstream camp, is a tightly produced, well-written ode to a couple of people who are enjoying living in the here and now.  The cadence of the lyric sung by Charles Kelley and Hillary Scott drives the song along and that ultimately was enough to have the single start the list.
