Jack Ingram - That's A Man

Jack Ingram scored a #1 single and four Top 40 hits off of "This Is It."  With the release of "That's A Man," Jack is back with a radio single that manages to walk the line behind his roots and contemporary radio tastes.  But is walking that line enough for Jack to score another big hit?

After trying multiple times to break out of Texas to become a national player in the country music scene, Jack Ingram became Big Machine Records’ first success story with the release of his single “Wherever You Are.”  He, not Taylor Swift, was the first artist to score a #1 single for the label.  He then went on to release four more Top 40 singles off of “This Is It.”

For the first single off Jack’s second Big Machine album, due in early 2009, he has chosen to release “That’s A Man.”  Back in the 1990s, country music had Lee Roy Parnell singing roots-y country rock anthems about the common folks.  Recently there hasn’t been anyone taking up that mantle too much so it’s only natural for Ingram to pick it up and run with it.  The whole melody of “That’s A Man” really reminds me of Lee Roy’s “The Road.”  While not the barroom honky tonkers favored by Ingram earlier in his career, “That’s A Man” is a song that is balancing himself out more than perhaps his first few country radio hits did.   There’s a place on country radio for songs like “That’s A Man” and Ingram should be the man to take it.
