Intro.: |(D) |(G) | x 2

Well I (D)wish I had some shoes on my two bare (G)feet
And it's (D)gettin' kinda cold in these painted-on cut-off (G)jeans
I (D)hate the way this bikini top chafes
Do I (G)really have to wear it all day? --- (Yeah baby)

I (D)hear you over there on your tailgate whistlin' (G)
Sayin', "(D)Hey girl," but you know I ain't listenin' (G)
'Cause I (D)got a name and to you it ain't pretty little (G)thing, honey or baby
It's driving me (A)red red red red red red redneck (G)crazy

(Chorus)
Being the (D)girl in a country song, how in the (G)world did it go so wrong?
Like all we're (D)good for is looking good for you and your (G)friends on the weekend, nothin' more
We (D)used to get a little respect, now we're (G)lucky if we even get
To climb (A)up in the truck, keep our mouth shut, ride along, (G) and be the girl in a country song

Solo: |(D) |(G) ---

Well, (D)shakin' my moneymaker ain't ever made me a (G)dime
And there (D)ain't no sugar for you in this shaker of (G)mine
Tell me (D)one more time you gotta get you some of that
Sure I'll (G)slide on over, but you're gonna get slapped
(A) These days it ain't easy being (G)that

(Chorus)
(D)Girl in a country song, how in the (G)world did it go so wrong?
Like all we're (D)good for is looking good for you and your (G)friends on the weekend, nothin' more
We (D)used to get a little respect, now we're (G)lucky if we even get
To climb (A)up in the truck, keep our mouth shut, ride along, (G) and be the girl in a country song

Solo: |(D) |(G) Yep, yep, yep |(D) |(G) |

(D)Aw naw, Conway and George Strait never did it this way back in the (C)old days
(D)Aw y'all, we ain't a cliché that ain't (F)no (G)way --- to treat a lady ---

Like a (D)girl in a country song, how in the (G)world did it go so wrong?
Like all we're (D)good for (C) is looking (G)good for
(F)you and your (G)friends on the (F)weekend, (E)nothin' more (Eb)
We (D)used to get a little respect, now we're (G)lucky if we even get
To climb (A)up in the truck, keep our mouth shut, ride along (G)
Down some (A)dirt road we don't even wanna be on, (G) --- and be the girl in a country song

Outro.: |(D) |(G)Yeah baby |(D) I ain't your tan legged Juliet |
|(G)Can I put on some real clothes now?|(D)Aw naw |(D) |(D) -----

Too bad they lose the message by putting out a bro sounding songs w/ smart lyrics. Opportunity missed

The best way yo start a movement is from within. If Maddie & Tae came out with a more traditional country song (melodically), NOBODY would've listened to it, particularly radio. It's working BECAUSE it sounds like current stuff. Also, who said they disliked the sound of the current songs. They disliked some of the lyric references.
