Verse 1
Well, he lives way down in the south end of Florida
where no man ever goes.
He lives way back in the Everglades Swamp
where the muddy water flows.
He killed a man at the age of twenty-one.
Nobody really knew why.
But he came to me after he shot him down,
said "The boy was messin' with my wife."

Chorus
So if you ever go down to the south end of Florida
where no man ever goes,
well you better not go near the Everglades Swamp,
at least you'd better not go alone.

Verse 2
Well, this boy I'm talkin bout was kin,
but yet he was a friend of mine.
But now he lives back in the Everglades Swamp
where the buzzards are scared to fly.
Four wardens went down into the swamp,
to try to bring that boy back home.
But after three long days and two dark nights,
only one of them came out alone.

Chorus
So if you ever go down to the south end of Florida
where no man ever goes,
well you better not go near the Everglades Swamp,
at least you'd better not go alone.
