Dubliners - "Black Velvet Band"

#
BLACK VELVET BAND

Her eyes they shone like the diamonds
You'd think she was queen of the land
With her hair hung over her shoulders
Tied up with a black velvet band

As I was walking on Broadway
Not tending to stay very long
I met with a frolicsome dancer
And she came a-tippin' along

And what she pulled from her pocket
And slipped right into my hand
On the very first day that I met her
Bad luck to her black velvet band

Front of Judge next morning
Yes both of us did appear
A gentleman then claimed his jewellery
And the case against us was clear

For seven long years accommodation
Far away from Cape Breton Isle
Away from my friends and relations
To follow the black velvet band
